About Industrial / Organizational Psychology Program
at Rice University
The Rice Graduate program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
(I/O) follows the scientist/practitioner model of graduate education,
with an emphasis on the scientist component. Students are prepared
for the practice of I/O through coursework and internships.
Although internships are not required, most students obtain
practical experience during their graduate career. The primary
focus of the program is research. The formal research requirements
are fulfilled with the first year project, the master's thesis,
and the doctoral dissertation. Students are expected to be involved
in research in addition to the formal requirements. Other areas
may be covered depending on the declared areas of specialization
of the student.
